Composting Toilets
Toilet waste is over 90% water
content. This is evaporated and vented to the atmosphere through the ventilation
system. The small amount of remaining material is recycled into a useful
fertilizing soil.
Composting toilets produce no pollutants while collecting nutrients. No
chemicals and no septic systems are used fragile environments are therefore
protected. A composting toilet is an environmentally healthy choice for
recycling human waste.
Re-Use Nutrients
Instead of just letting these
valuable nutrients wash away, you are reusing them. As human waste is composted,
the nutrients are contained in the soil by-product without any of the pathogens
or viruses which are destroyed by bacterial breakdown. This fertilizer can
then be used on plants or around the base of trees, rather than just leaching
into the water table.
Odour Free
As well as ensuring an
aerobic breakdown in the Bio-drum, the Canadiian made Sun-Mar ensure an odor free environment by
engineering the air flow within the unit to maintain a partial vacuum at all
times. Air is being drawn in either by a fan (or on non-electric units by the
vent chimney) over the evaporating chamber and up the vent stack. Not only does
this evaporate excess liquid, but by continuously pulling air in we ensure no
smell escapes from the unit.
Evaporation is assisted on electric units by a thermostatically controlled
heater in a sealed compartment underneath the evaporating chamber.
No Chemicals
The only thing that is
added is peat moss mixed with wood shavings, mixed 60% wood shavings, 40%
peat moss, or Sun-Mar's Compost Sure peat mix with hemp.
Chemicals are dangerous to the composting process and should never be added.
Off Grid
Both electric and non-electric
versions available. Due to the high energy consumption of the heater element,
the electric versions are not suitable for most off grid installations. However
an electric heater such as this is an ideal dump load you have a micro hydro or
wind turbine system.
